Located in Budapest’s City Park, the Széchenyi Baths were built in 1913 and completed in 1927. Locals and visitors alike come to enjoy the city’s largest and warmest thermal spa, with a plethora of indoor and outdoor pools, including spring-fed baths.

Begin your day by skipping the long lines of the main entrance and heading to the rear, where an English-speaking host greets you. You’re led to your own locker or changing cabin so you can prepare for a full day of relaxation. Under the stunning interior domes, make your way from pools to saunas and steam rooms at your own pace. The temperature varies for each of the 18 pools, with the large outdoor swimming pool at a temperature of 84 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Celsius) or the steaming pool at 106 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius), a fine place to sit back and treat your muscles. Don’t worry about the time while you pool hop; this ticket provides full-day access.

If you’re in the mood to top off the day with a little more luxury, upgrade to include a relaxing massage, which includes a spa gift bag.

The spas are good, especially the sauna. We went off-season so “skipping the line” was totally unnecessary. But I’m given to understand that it gets crazy busy later in spring and summer. If you’re traveling without flip flops or a towel you’ll either need this package or to buy them at the spa. So that saved a little trouble.

The swimming pools, baths and changing rooms are all rather dingy, grubby, lack privacy and are very over crowded. We didn't realise the extra expensive costs of getting robes, towels, flip-flops and bathing cap which together with the entrance fee makes for a rather expensive experience. Ultimately it is just a hot pool with far too many people in it and the indoor pools are not very inviting. Some of the staff are not particularly helpful and almost surly in their attitude. Better signage is needed. Go if you want to see the baths but personally I think they are overrated and there are other better value experiences in Budapest.

We checked in at the desk where we were then sent to the regular check in line when we did not upgrade to a massage package. It said we would be led to a private changing cabin which we were not. We were told to go downstairs to the regular locker room where it was a madhouse, no changing cabins in site. No one there to ask and couldn’t go back to front desk without exiting the entire complex and going through process again. Ended up changing in front of a million people. Very disappointed we did not get what was advertised.

easy entrance, bring your own towel and sandals so you don’t have to pay! it was busy but super easy to find lockers and change. they had swimsuit dryers which was perfect because we didn’t have time to go back to our hostel before going out again :)

You can’t miss this Budapeste point of interest. I will recommend you to buy a ticket with a cabin. The staff is very nice. Please bring your own slippers and towel. A robe is recommended if you can’t survive a few seconds cold during the winter (since the water temperature is around 38C).

We weren’t told at the start to bring our own towels and flip flops. Then were told that flip flops were mandatory and had to purchase a pair for €15!! Hygiene and cleanliness was awful in the baths. No option for female massager and felt very uncomfortable during the massage as the male massager didn’t even leave the room while my friend removed the top half of her bikini! Disgusting and very poor customer service. Would not recommend at all.

Really enjoyed the afternoon. The afternoons seemed to be a busy time and at first you do think it's too crowded but surprisingly there always seems to be space. Water was really hot, but that is the point. We checked in advance and took robes and flip flops but worth swimmers noting you must have a swimming cap and also that kiosks selling drinks are card only which was fine for us but some might need to make sure.in advance. Worth a visit. Didn't have massage, not really my thing. Staff were not super friendly but not rude just ok.
