Super way to see Bruges

Mathias was the perfect guide and the rainy March weather held off so we had a fantastic day in Bruges. The central meeting place and time in Brussels were very convenient and our small group of 8 had no trouble catching the train and getting to see some of Belgium during the hour-long trip. Mathias did a great two-hour walking tour with lots of interesting stories but also bringing context with history and architecture. In the hour and a half we had on our own we managed great waffles and the boat tour on the canal. We easily made the train back to end a great day.

Adrien was an excellent guide and made the tour super enjoyable. His knowledge of history, dry sense of humor and his passion (for Bruges, for history, for making sure we got we were looking for) made the tour. Bruges is a gorgeous setting and while some have described it as touristy it has a very interesting history that we learned all about. Note we were there in February, when the tourist hordes are minimized, and the weather a little gloomy...but it was still one of the highlights of our 10 days in Netherlands and Brussels. Props to Adrien for making it very enjoyable! Here is more detail if desired... 1. We booked the tour the night before. We had a free day and wanted to get outside Brussels 2. Meet point at the Grand Place was easy. Adrien and his female assistant were easy to spot with the umbrellas they had. Plus at this time of morning it was not crowded. This was a convenient spot as we were at the nearby Hilton Brussels Grand Place 3. The start time was great for us. 9:30 is perfect - not too early (I mean we are on holiday), gave us plenty of time to have breakfast and prepare. 4. Walk to Centraal station was just a couple of blocks, very easy 5. Train ride was pleasant. We had been on several trains so we were used to them by now. Adrien gave good advice on all of us sitting near him and walked us to the front of the train where there were less people 6. From the train station in Bruges short walk into the city. We crisscrossed and saw everything there was to see with several stops on the way. Tour took a couple of hours, leaving us a couple of hours on our own. 7. We would have preferred going on a weekend to be able to spend more time there than we did on a Friday as most of our free time was spent eating lunch and warming up at Half Moon brewery (great recommendation by Adrien as well, he had several for those who wanted to buy chocolate, places to eat and drink, etc.) 8. The group met back at the designated meeting space and walked to the train for the ride home. Again, no issues, comfortable ride, decent scenery (trains are comfortable, come with free toilets, and are heated properly). Adrien bid us adieu at the Central station 9. Tour group size was good - 14 of us so it was easy to stay together, hear our guide, etc. We were in an English speaking group. Interesting diversity in the group - we were the only couple from the states with others from Peru, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, and more

Mathias was a great tour leader! Super knowledgeable and clearly loves his job! The tour was short enough to leave sufficient time for self exploring of the city and gave us a diverse round up of the key historical facts of Bruges.

Our English speaking guide was sick the day our our tour, so we decided to go ahead with the Spanish tour since we were leaving the next day. We ended up with Ana- who was so energetic and enthusiast, you could see the look on the other faces being caught up in the story she was telling. Luckily we had help from her intern who was very helpful in helping translate and she would touch base to see if we had any questions. Everything was great! Would recommend this tour and this company and will definitely look for other tours from them on future vacations.
