The basics

Chablis is known for its flowery, crisp white wine. Made exclusively from chardonnay grapes, it isn’t quite as fruity as other white wines typically found in Burgundy. The area’s chillier temperatures stimulate the acidity of the grapes, which is further enhanced by the stainless steel tanks local winemakers use in place of the traditional oak barrels.

There are various vineyards and cellars open to visitors in Chablis, each worth a visit: the most popular one is William Fevre. Here wine aficionados can taste different Chablis wines by the glass and eat regional delicacies in the atmospheric setting of the village’s historic hospital, surrounded by 126 acres (51 hectares) of vineyards. Driving from winery to winery is a popular way to experience the area, but if you plan to drink, it’s best to hire a taxi or join a tour.

Burgundy Wine Tour from Paris in Chablis with 3 Wineries, cellars and 12+ drinks
Very unique combination of places we visited - most wonderful. We started with a great introduction to Chablis wines in a locally owned medium commercial venture. We then went back in time to wonder a small wine cellar with the most amazing sights (and wine of course). We ended in the "bat cave" for sparkling wine. Our host, John-Philip, was so much fun. He answered all our questions and made this my best tour so far (I've done 10)!A

Oliver was our guide. He was friendly, knowledgeable and made the day fun. There is plenty of good wine to taste and each of the three wineries was unique. Oliver shared his knowledge of wine and French history. Lunch was at a charming restaurant with a traditional French lunch. We would go on this tour again.

Full-Day North Burgundy and Chablis Wine Tasting Tour from Paris
My husband and I went on this wine tasting tour on our last day in Paris and it was the perfect way to cap our trip. The drive to the Burgundy was easy, the tastings were wonderful and all offered a lovely sampling of the area. Louis was a very knowledgable host, and he took us to smaller venues that showcased the history of the region. This was such a special day, thank you so much!

Chablis & Northern Burgundy Wine Tour
We need to thank Nick for organizing the day. We stayed in Beaune and he explained in details how to best organize the tour. We took a train early AM and he met us at the train station. He's been in the business for some time and it shows. Nick organised the route in a such a way that we saw and tasted wines from different areas in Chablis and around. Along with a range of different chardonnays (oaked, unoaked, bio, no-sulfates....) we also encountered, to our surprise Sauvignon blanc and non-pinot noir reds. At the end of the tour we had a very good understanding of what is produced in Chablis area. Unfortunately in Canada we can by only one type "generic" chablis wine that is selected by someone as most representative. We tasted chardonnays in Burgundy (Beaune and Nuits) and Pouilly Fuisse but liked Chablis more. We found that white wines are best left unoaked or very lightly oaked. Ended up bringing few bottles home. Thank you, Nick!

This trip was great. The scenery with all the autumn colors was beautiful. The wines were very good. Olivier was very knowledgeable about the wine, the region, the history, etc and at the same time he was very entertaining. The small restaurant where we had lunch in Chablis was charming, and the food and service perfect.

Pontigny Abbey

History lovers rejoice: just outside of Chablis sits Pontigny Abbey. One of the oldest Cistercian sites still standing, it dates to AD 1114 and was originally an abbey; the monks who lived here are responsible for developing the area's wine industry. Most of the abbey was destroyed during the French Revolution, but the church managed to survive the ages.
